Lara is a nutritional biochemist and science communicator running the nutrition science YouTube channel Nourishable. She earned her MSc and PhD in the Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition program.
Her doctoral thesis work focused on defining how Western-style or calorie restricted diets impacted genome-wide DNA methylation patterns over the course of the aging process. During her postdoc she investigated epigenomic patterns in diabetic foot ulcer-derived fibroblasts to characterize epigenotypes in the context of chronic wound healing.
Lara has taught extensively at the undergraduate, community college and graduate level in anatomy, physiology and nutrition. She created the YouTube channel Nourishable to translate the facts behind the fads in nutrition research to engage the public in making evidence-based healthy lifestyle decisions.
