He studied Chemical Engineering at Princeton, and went on to co-found a non-profit in Zimbabwe devoted to treating children for parasitic infections. He enjoys programming in python and javascript, and enjoys photography and tennis in his spare time.

Patrick van Nieuwenhuizen is a 4th-year medical student at Columbia University. In the past, he co-founded a non-profit in Zimbabwe devoted to treating children for parasitic infections. In medical school, he worked as a content creator for Khan Academy, producing videos on medical physiology. He created Macrophage because he believes in active learning and believes that artificial intelligence will revolutionize education.

Karin Tsai is a Staff Software Engineer at Duolingo, a free language-learning app that has over a hundred million users. She is also a Computer Science PhD candidate at Carnegie Mellon University. In her free time she dances in a hiphop crew.

Dr. Rachel Gordon is an infectious diseases physician and associate professor of medicine and epidemiology at Columbia University Medical Center. She teaches the “Microbiology and Infectious Disease” course for first year medical and dental students. Dr. Gordon strives to integrate technology into her courses (see her website here). She has twice received the Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award.
Dr. Krzysztof Kiryluk is a physician-scientist in the division of Nephrology at Columbia University. He teaches the first-year course on renal physiology and pathophysiology. As a physician, Dr. Kiryluk specializes in the treatment of chronic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, and inherited kidney disorders. In his research, he aims to define genetic disorders contributing to the risk of kidney disease.
